The route

Fort Myers to Port Everglades

Of the two cross-Florida cruise runs from southwest Florida, this is the gentler one. Port Everglades sits north of Miami, which takes the worst of the metropolitan traffic out of the equation, and the terminals themselves are considerably easier to approach than PortMiami on a busy morning. For a Gulf Coast group with a choice of ports, that difference is worth having.

The route is still Alligator Alley, so the same rules apply. Two hours of straight, empty road with limited services, a comfort stop built into the schedule, and a strong argument for a full-size coach with a restroom aboard. What changes is the far end: Eller Drive on a turnaround Saturday is busy but predictable in a way the PortMiami approach often is not.

Most southwest Florida groups we carry on this route are sailing on the same day they leave, which means an early start. The alternative some groups prefer is to overnight in Broward and take a short hop to the terminal in the morning, and we are happy to run it either way depending on what suits the group.

At a glance

Distance: About 125 miles

Typical time: Roughly 2 hours plus a stop

Best for: Southwest Florida groups sailing from Broward County

When to leave

For a same-day sailing we depart southwest Florida early, with the comfort stop scheduled rather than improvised. Groups who overnight in Broward get a much more relaxed morning and a short terminal run.

Planning it properly

What decides this run

Easier terminal approach

Port Everglades is more predictable than PortMiami on a turnaround morning, which is worth real time.

Full-size coach

Restroom on board for the Alley crossing. The same reasoning as the Miami route applies.

Same-day or overnight

Sail-day departure or an overnight in Broward first. We will run whichever suits the group.

Return leg included

Book both directions. Driving the Alley after a week at sea is nobody's idea of a good morning.

Route questions

About the Fort Myers to Port Everglades run

How long does it take from Fort Myers to Port Everglades?

About two hours plus a comfort stop, which is roughly half an hour quicker than PortMiami and with an easier approach at the far end.

Which port is better for a Gulf Coast group?

Port Everglades is generally the smoother morning if your cruise line sails from there. Most groups let the itinerary decide and we cover both routes regularly.

Can we overnight in Fort Lauderdale first?

Plenty of groups do, and it makes the sailing morning considerably calmer. We can run the cross-Florida leg the day before and a short terminal transfer the next morning.

Do you pick up across Lee and Collier counties?

Yes. Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero, Bonita Springs, and Naples pickups on one run are routine. Send the addresses and we will sequence them sensibly.

Running this route?

Send the date, the headcount, and the time it actually has to happen. We will come back with one flat number.
