The route

Fort Myers to PortMiami

Alligator Alley is the most straightforward and least forgiving drive in Florida. It is a straight, flat, largely featureless run across the Everglades with very little in the way of services and nowhere sensible to stop for long stretches. Two and a half hours of it before you even reach the Miami traffic, and then a cruise terminal at the end.

That combination is exactly why Gulf Coast cruise groups book coaches. A full-size motorcoach has a restroom on board, which on this particular road stops being a nicety about forty minutes in. It also means nobody in your group is driving across the state at five in the morning and then doing it again a week later after a cruise.

The cost side is straightforward too. Parking a handful of cars in a PortMiami garage for the length of a sailing generally exceeds what the coach costs, before you count fuel across three hundred miles round trip. For a group of any size the arithmetic is not close.

At a glance

Distance: About 150 miles

Typical time: Roughly 2.5 hours plus a stop

Best for: Gulf Coast groups sailing from the southeast coast

When to leave

Same-day sailings from southwest Florida mean a pre-dawn departure, and we would rather build in margin than run the Alley against the clock. Groups who prefer a gentler morning sometimes overnight on the east coast instead.

Planning it properly

What decides this run

Restroom on board

A full-size motorcoach for this route rather than a minibus. Alligator Alley is not the road to economise on.

Early start

A same-day sailing means leaving southwest Florida well before dawn. We plan the departure backward from boarding.

One comfort stop

Built into the schedule rather than improvised, since the options along the route are genuinely limited.

Book both legs

The return after a week at sea is the one nobody wants to drive. Book it at the same time as the outbound.

Ready to price the Fort Myers to PortMiami run?

Reach us however you like. A person who actually knows the routes answers, not a call center reading from a script.

Peak cruise season overlaps with spring training on the Gulf Coast, which is when southwest Florida coach capacity is at its tightest.

  1. You send the basics. Date, pickup, destination, headcount. That is enough to price it.
  2. We send one all-in number. Bus, driver, and fuel together, with tolls and parking itemized.
  3. You approve, we hold the coach. Paperwork and certificates follow for schools and vendors.
Route questions

About the Fort Myers to PortMiami run

How long is the drive from Fort Myers to PortMiami?

Around two and a half hours plus a comfort stop, and longer once Miami traffic is involved. It is a straight run across Alligator Alley with limited services, which is worth planning for rather than discovering.

Do the coaches have restrooms for this route?

Full-size motorcoaches do, and for this trip we recommend one regardless of headcount. It is the single feature that makes the Alley comfortable rather than merely survivable.

Is it cheaper than driving ourselves?

For a group, comfortably. Port garage parking for a week across several cars usually exceeds the coach cost on its own, before fuel for three hundred miles round trip.

Should we sail from Port Everglades instead?

It is roughly half an hour closer and often the easier option if your cruise line uses it. We run Gulf Coast groups to both ports and can price either.

Running this route?

Send the date, the headcount, and the time it actually has to happen. We will come back with one flat number.
