Lee County weddings split between the islands and the River District, and the two could hardly be more different to plan for. Sanibel, Captiva, and Fort Myers Beach all share the same shape of problem: a causeway or a single road in, parking that runs out early, and an evening return that nobody should be driving. Downtown is the opposite, with venues clustered close together and a parking situation that is merely annoying rather than decisive.
The islands are where a shuttle stops being optional. Sanibel and Captiva are reached by one causeway, and once you are on them the road narrows and the parking is genuinely limited. Getting a hundred guests out there in their own cars is possible in the way that most bad ideas are possible. Getting them back after a reception is where it becomes a real problem.
We have been running Lee County weddings since 1996, which is long enough to know which properties can take a full-size coach and which need something smaller, and to plan the causeway timing around a ceremony rather than around a map. That is most of what local knowledge buys you on a wedding day.

Once on the islands the roads narrow and turnarounds get tight. Some venues need a mid-size coach rather than a full-size one, and we check first.
River District venues
Downtown venues sit close together with shared parking that fills on a Saturday night. Short loops work well and cost less than island runs.
Late returns off the island
The return is the leg that matters. Nobody should be driving a dark causeway after a reception, and a loop solves it completely.

Yes, over the causeway, though the island roads narrow considerably once you are there. Some venues take a full-size coach comfortably and some need a mid-size one. Send the property name and we will confirm before the day.
How early should guests leave for an island ceremony?
Earlier than the drive time suggests. The causeway is the variable, and in season it is a meaningful one. We start the first loop well ahead of the ceremony so a slow crossing does not turn into an empty front row.
Is a shuttle worth it for a downtown wedding?
Less essential than for an island venue, but still useful. River District parking fills on a Saturday evening and the venues sit close enough together that a short loop is inexpensive and saves everyone the hunt.
Do you cover Cape Coral and Bonita for guest pickups?
Yes, along with Estero, North Fort Myers, and the beaches. Multi-property guest blocks across Lee County on one loop are normal, and we sequence them so the first pickup is not the longest ride.
